The Black Rock Desert is a place of intrigue and myth. A place that pioneers feared, a place that is vast, silent, and immense. Also, it can be cacophonic and colorful—a place where spirit touches individuals and imagination.
The Black Rock Desert is a playa or dry lake bed in Northern Nevada. Early emigrants had to cross this barren landscape following the Lassen-Applegate Trail. Before that, Native Americans used the natural resources found along its edge. Far enough back in time, it was a marsh and lake with early man hunting big game like mammoths and sloths.
